MOUNTAINS GROUP
INITIATES ENERGY PROJECT
The Sierra Club Mountains Group has
launched an Energy Project to explore ways to reduce energy consumption,
and the resulting air pollution, in our mountain area.
As a first step, the Project is focusing
on assisting the Rim of the World School District with energy
conservation.
Members of the Project include Sue
Walker, chair, David Ficke, Valerie Wilson, and Doreen
Kennedy. The group would like to have additional members and
contributions.
For further information, to join or offer
a suggestion, please

Why is the Energy Project's mission
so important and why should you care?
Because:
More than 90% of US energy consumption is
from fossil fuels.
Fossil fuels are nonrenewable. (When they
are gone they are gone, and meanwhile the price is going up.)
Fossil fuels cause air pollution and
atmospheric warming.
Air pollution and atmospheric warming
cause serious health problems in humans, as well as in animals and
plants. Trees and forests are dying as a result. Recent years' increased
forest fires have been linked to global warming.
